Giant Lobster Ale, a collaborative beer was brewed by Moo Brew in partnership with The Wilderness Society in Tasmania. Proceeds from this beer support habitat protection for the endangered Tasmanian giant freshwater lobster. The marketing campaign was inspired by stories of historical bushmen using these large lobsters to crack open beers.

The Protivín brewery in the Czech Republic uses live crayfish as living biosensors to monitor water purity for beer production, acting as a bioindicators. ". Infrared sensors monitor the heart rates and movements of five crayfish in a tank connected to the brewery’s water supply, flagging impurities within three minutes if three or more react to changes. My fiend Dr. Kozak (pictured) has developed this method and I have been lucky enough to tour the brewery (and taste their delicious beer!).
